Knowledge for Development

The Caribbean

A selection of S&T organisations in the Caribbean.

Trinidad and Tobago Foresight and Innovation Network (TTFI)

April 2010 has been a busy month with progress being made on all fronts. What is particularly exciting is that many of the activities have been very much focused on the future of both young people and private sector development in T&T. Progress in both areas is an essential part of realising the aspirations associated with national Vision 2020 project.

Trinidad and Tobago: National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST)

NIHERST is promoting and developing capacity in applied R&D. The institute oversees education and training in science and technology, and serves as a focal point and coordinating agency for national and international S&T programmes and initiatives.

UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Science and Technology Unit

ECLAC is assisting in the formulation and analysis of a science and technology policy for the Caribbean. The unit's work programme involves collaborating with regional and international agencies, promoting technical cooperation, conducting analysis, and promoting new technologies and the integrated management of natural resources. The unit is also concerned to develop scientific and technological expertise in areas not specifically addressed by existing institutions and agencies in this field.
