Introduction:
This book forms a sequel to the above-mentioned proceedings of the 1997 workshop. In a number of papers, the issue of integrating technologies for environmental monitoring and information production is further developed. Several detailed examples are presented of successful projects and developments. It is observed that policy makers and scientists still tend to focus on their own field of expertise, ignoring that ?everything is connected to everything?. The workshop concluded that there is an urgent need to widely promote the integrated view.
