6th meeting of the Advisory Committee on S&T for ACP Agricultural and Rural Development



The Centre will convene the 6th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Science & Technology (S&T) for ACP Agricultural and Rural Development at the CTA Headquarters in Wageningen, The Netherlands, from November 12 – 16, 2007. The theme for this year’s meeting is “ Advancing the ST&I Policy Dialogue – Increasing Performance and Impact”. The focus will be on ST&I policy implications and strategies for: addressing emerging technologies and issues for capitalizing on product/market opportunities and enhancing innovation and improving performance of ACP agriculture. Three new policy briefs will be discussed by the AC, " Improving livestock development in ACP countries", "Safeguarding the ACP Fisheries resources " and "Biofuels: ACPs response to Fossil Fuel Dependence" . The Advisory Committee will also deliberate on lessons learned in mainstreaming the innovation systems approach, strategies for improving the ASTI system performance and proposals for monitoring and evaluating the performance of the ASTI system with emphasis on identifying indicators for national ARD organizations.



Over the years Wageningen University and Research Centre has actively participated in the AC meetings. This year, an entire day is devoted to visiting the Wageningen UR Campus and gaining firsthand knowledge of their state of the art facilities and networking with WUR colleagues. This year’s meeting will also consider new areas of focus and modes of operation for the CTA S&T programme including the AC and the knowledge for development website.
