University of Georgia receives grant to develop sustainable poultry production in Africa

Introduction:

The University of Georgia (UGA, USA) has received more than 440 000 US$ as part of a collaborative research, outreach and education programme aimed at encouraging sustainable poultry production in Mali. This project is part of the Livestock-Climate Change Collaborative Research Support Programme at Colorado State University (CSU) and funded by USAID bilateral mission in Mali under a 5,25 million US$ Poultry and Pastoralism Associate Award. This three-year programme will be led by the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ department of poultry science and agricultural and applied economics, and the College of Veterinary Medicine pathology department. The programme will be implemented in cooperation with the Mali Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the USAID Mission in Mali, the Malian Extension Service and faculty at CSU.(Source: LCC CRSP, 7 December 2010.)
