International Foundation for Science (IFS)

IFS is a research council with international operations and the mission to build the scientific capacity of developing countries in sciences related to the sustainable management of biological and water resources. At IFS, we believe that the interests of both science and development are best served by promoting and nurturing the research efforts of promising young science graduates, who have the potential to become leading scientists in their countries. Applications for IFS Research Grants are welcome from young scientists in developing countries to do research on the sustainable management, use or conservation of biological or water resources. This broad statement covers natural science and social science research on agriculture, soils, animal production, food science, forestry, agroforestry, aquatic resources, natural products, water resources, etc. Applications are accepted all year and are to be made on an IFS Application Form

JNCASR-COSTED Fellowship Programme

This fellowship programme is jointly organized by the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) and the ICSU Committee on Science and Technology in Developing Countries (COSTED) to foster mobility and exchange of scientists from developing countries, to promote South-South cooperation, and to link science and technology for development and capacity building. The fellowship covers short-term research, training or participatory research work in physical, chemical and biological sciences in reputed scientific institutions in India including the JNCASR. The programme is open to scientists, teachers and research scholars affiliated to scientific or academic institutions in developing countries. Deadlines for receipt of applications are 30 June and 31 December each year. Application forms can be obtained from costed@vsnl.com.

Marie Curie Host Fellowships

Location: variable Marie Curie Fellowships for Early Stage Training (EST) are available to researchers with less than 4 years research experience (and without a PhD) to benefit from stays of 3-36 months in internationally recognised groups. In many cases this would even allow a young researcher to carry out an entire PhD. Marie Curie Fellowships for Transfer of Knowledge (TOK) are available to researchers who already have a PhD or who have at least 4 years full-time research experience who are capable of transferring knowledge and technology to institutions, in the public or private sector, seeking to extend their competence in specific areas.
