The new Regional Cereal Rust Research Center http://www.icarda.org/striperust2014/regional-rust-research-center/, based in Turkey, will offer strategic support to farmers and countries affected by the growing threat of wheat stripe rust and other rusts – providing race analyses of cereal rusts; tracking the movement of wheat rust pathogens; and screening wheat varieties for resistance and susceptibility. and serving countries across the region. The Regional Center, a partnership of the Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock and the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), is currently evaluating some 16,000 types of wheat received from countries worldwide who have sent their plants to be evaluated for levels of resistance or susceptibility to rust.
